Art of Cooking at Recipe for Success

Today we visited the region of Persia!! We started the day with the lesson on Judaism. We learned the main ingredient staple during the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah is oil. Because of the sacred oil that lasted for eights days during the Maccabees’ rebellion against Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Therefore many Jewish meals during Hanukkah are cooked in oil. Dishes like latkes, which was the first food we made today! Our latkes consisted of potatoes, eggs, bulgar, carrots, and kohlrabi. We shredded the potatoes, carrots, garlic, onion, and kohlrabi, then mixed it well with eggs and bulgar, and finally baked them in the oven.
We also made falafel which we made from shallots, spices, chickpeas, and parsley; we put all of this into the food processor. After that we rolled it up into balls that we squished down into circular shapes on the pan, then put it in the oven and baked it.

A Tabbouleh salad was made of parsley, tomatoes, cucumber, and a hint of mint. We added an olive oil, white wine vinegar, garlic, salt, parsley, and scallion dressing to top the tabbouleh salad. We also made a turmeric pickled cauliflower side by boiling peppercorn, vinegar, salt, anise, cumin, cinnamon, and water and adding it to mason jars fill with cauliflowers. Lastly we made vegetable kebabs with eggplant, mushrooms, yellow squash, zucchini, and onions and lathered it a vinaigrette.
Finally we feasted, today was a great day of chopping, mixing, and cooking!
